EWB uses sustainable solutions to build a better world, one community at a time (www.ewb-mn.org)
Engineers Without Borders (EWB) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) established to partner with developing communities worldwide. This partnership involves the implementation of sustainable engineering projects to meet the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDG seek solutions to global problems, like: one-fifth of human beings are unable to read, about 2.4 billion people lack adequate sanitation, and half the world drinks contaminated water or goes thirsty).
You can HELP. You do NOT need to be an engineer, the meetings are FREE, and curious citizens are always welcome to come and see if our projects are right for you!
EWB mobilizes professionals and students across the USA to provide project management, fundraising, communications, and engineering expertise to do real, hands-on projects.
Training a new generation of advocates who can meet the needs of the developing world is a critical challenge. Although other organizations provide technical aid to disadvantaged communities, EWB is unique in its own ways:
1) EWB works in long-term partnerships with various community stakeholders to solve their critical needs. Community participation and training are crucial to success.
2) EWB develops holistic and systemic solutions to the communities it serves using an Adopt a Village (TM) approach.
3) EWB does not provide quick technical fixes but instead builds capacity for communities to solve their problems.
4) EWB recognizes that issues such as water, energy, shelter, health, job creations, etc. are interrelated and solving one issue is often not enough.
5) EWB understands there is more than one solution to a community problem.
6) EWB develops a new generation of students and professionals who are internationally educated.
7) Finally, EWB sees poverty as relating primarily to the limited access people have to the knowledge and resources with which to address their basic human needs.
EWB is a secular organization with NO religious ties. EWB is affiliated with the poverty fighting group one.org
We hope to be the #1 volunteer organization for people who like to roll up their sleeves and get projects done... more info at www.ewb-mn.org
